Twenty flights delayed amidst ongoing KLIA systems glitch

SEPANG: Almost two dozen flights were delayed today (Aug 22) as both terminals of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) grapple with a systems disruption.

Up to twenty flights on airlines bound for Narita, Japan; Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, Australia; Jakarta, Indonesia; London, United Kingdom; and Hong Kong were affected, Bernama reported.

The glitch affected several airport systems, including the Flight Information Display System (FIDS), check-in-counters, the Baggage Handling Systems (BHS), and WiFi availability.

In a statement today, airport operator Malaysia Airports said the disruption began on Wednesday night (Aug 21), and is in the midst of being rectified.

“All relevant airport staff have been deployed to assist passengers on the ground, as we expect the situation to continue throughout the day today,” it said.

Despite the delay, the situation at KLIA is under control, with KLIA CARE Ambassadors assisting passengers at self-check-in kiosks.

Passengers have been advised to reach the airport at least four hours before their flight departure time, and to check with their airlines for the latest flight schedules.
