Slim by-election: Early voting begins

SLIM RIVER: Early voting for the Slim by-election kicked off at 8am today, enabling early voters made up of police personnel to exercise their rights.
A total of 267 police personnel are expected to cast their ballots at the Muallim police headquarters here while adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines such as physical distancing, wearing face masks, using hand sanitisers and temperature checks.
The voting process is also being livestreamed on the Election Commission's (EC's) official Facebook account.
The candidates' polling agents and election observers are allowed to witness the early voting process.
All ballot boxes used for the early voting will be kept secure in the lock-up of the district police headquarters.
Counting of the votes will be done on polling day on Nov 29 at the vote tallying centre at the Tanjung Malim District Council, before polling agents and election observers.
The by-election was called following the death of incumbent Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib due to heart attack on July 15.
The Slim state by-election this Aug 29 will witness a three-cornered fight between a BN candidate and two Independent candidates.
They are Tanjung Malim Umno deputy chief Mohd Zaidi Aziz, 43, for Barisan Nasional, while the Independent candidates are S. Santharasekaran, 44, and lawyer Amir Khusyairi, 38, who is representing the yet-to-be registered Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang).
