KUANTAN: Seven children were injured when the school bus they were travelling in plunged into a ravine near the main road of Kampung Penderas, Kuala Krau in Temerloh, near here, on Thursday.

The bus was carrying Orang Asli students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kuala Krau to their homes in Kampung Pian, Kuala Krau, when the accident occurred at 4pm.

The bus driver fled the scene soon after the accident, Bernama reported.

Of the seven injured students, a 14-year-old sustained head and leg injuries and was rushed to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital.

Six other students – including one who suffered a broken arm – were taken to Kuala Krau Health Clinic.

“The bus is believed to have experienced a technical problem while it was taking a corner in a hilly area, causing it to roll in reverse before plunging into the ravine.

“The bus driver was not found at the scene and police are in the midst of tracking him down,” said Temerloh police chief Assistant Commissioner Zundin Mahmood.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
