Sabah journos happy with early vaccination

KOTA KINABALU: More than 300 media personnel in Sabah will be getting the Covid-19 vaccine soon.

Sabah Journalist Association (SJA) president Muguntan Vanar said the vaccination programme for the media was initiated by the state government.

"This whole programme is being done by the state government, under (Chief Minister) Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for the cabinet to approve to put the media as frontliners (to receive the vaccines).

"SJA is thankful to the state government and the federal government for making the call to put media members in the vaccination list," he said, after getting the first dose of the Coronavac's Sinovac vaccine at the Queen Elizabeth II hospital here.

Muguntan added that media members in Sandakan, Tawau and Labuan had gotten their jabs earlier while some reporters in the state capital received them today.

He said the Covid-19 vaccination for the media was crucial given the nature of their job having to be everywhere and dealing with everyone.

"Vaccination is a positive way of curbing the spread of Covid-19.

"I hope all media personnel would take advantage of this and get themselves vaccinated, not only to protect themselves but also their colleagues and family members," he said, adding that there were a few SJA members who still had doubts about being inoculated.

As of yesterday, 49,162 people had completed two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine while the registration for vaccination stood at 471,680 or 16.1 per cent of the total population in the state.
