PUTRAJAYA: The proposed standard operating procedure (SOP) for nursery-going children of frontliners, especially healthcare personnel, is not an act of discrimination. It is a preventive measure.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this while commenting on media reports over the proposed guideline that states children of health frontliners should remain at home or placed at separate nurseries or childcare centres.

He said the SOP was aimed at preventing the risk of Covid-19 transmission among children at nurseries since frontliners were among those in the high-risk group for Covid-19.

Dr Noor Hisham, however, said the ministry was still in the midst of information gathering and has yet to present the proposal to the National Security Council.

"We are not discriminating them. We are providing them with a special place. It may look like we are isolating them, but we are actually paying special attention to them," he said today.

Dr Noor Hisham stressed that the ministry does not discriminate in providing treatment and will take measures to reduce the risk of infection.
