New Zealand expat's KL home robbed of RM320,000 in valuables

KUALA LUMPUR: A New Zealand man lost RM320,000 worth of belongings after his three-storey house at Jalan Bukit Pantai here was burgled, recently.
The 68-year-old Kiwi, who had been on a month-long holiday in his home country, only realised he had been robbed after returning to Malaysia on Aug 1, Bernama reported.
Police launched an investigation into the case, and based on fingerprints found at the scene, were able to identify a suspect.
The 39-year-old man, who is a scrap metal dealer, was arrested at his apartment unit at the Pantai Baru People’s Housing Project (PPR) at 5.30pm on Tuesday (Aug 6).
Following the man’s detention, police recovered several items belonging to the Kiwi, including a laptop, an electronic exercise bicycle and a scanner.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Roslan Bek Ahmad told a media conference on Thursday (Aug 8) that the suspect has a criminal record of house breaking and drug-related offenses.
The man, who tested positive for drugs during his arrest, is under remand until Aug 12 to facilitate the investigation.
