My patience has its limit, says Anwar

KUALA KANGSAR: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warned party members and leaders that his patience has its limits and urged them not to do anything that could divide the party.

“People say Anwar is a patient person, as what (Datuk Seri) Shamsul Iskandar (Mohd Akin) said... but don’t test me.

“I am patient because I think that everyone has a right to air their views, but if my patience gives a picture that the party is not united, weak, I can no longer be patient,” he said in his opening speech at the Perak PKR Convention at Dewan Jubli Perak here today.

Also present were PKR vice-presidents Dr Xavier Jayakumar and Dr Lee Boon Chye, Perak PKR chairman Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, and Perak PKR vice-chairman Tan Kar Hing.

Anwar and PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali have had a strained relationship, splitting PKR into two camps after it was widely reported that the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad favoured Azmin as his successor. Dr Mahathir had denied the claim on several occasions.

The emergence of a sex video implicating Azmin, which the Economic Affairs Minister denied, had also caused further strain to his relationship with Anwar after the Gombak Member of Parliament insinuated that Anwar’s supporters were behind the viral video.

Anwar said as a party president, it was his responsibility to build and strengthen the party and to show it to the people and the opposition.

Anwar believed that the perception as if the party was divided could be counteracted when the national-level convention takes place in Melaka end of this week.

“We are expecting a huge number of PKR members nationwide from various race, religion and background to turn up, and this will show that PKR now is stronger and sturdier than before,” he said.

Meanwhile, Farhash Wafa said the grassroots members of the party are always behind Anwar’s back and only some leaders that raised some issues in the party.

He said this could be proven by the state PKR Convention today when more than 4,000 PKR members from all branches attended it.
