Muhyiddin launches Sukuk Prihatin

KUALA LUMPUR: The government, together with banks, launched the RM500 million Sukuk Prihatin Islamic bond today to extend aid towards groups badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The funds raised from the Islamic bond will be used, among others, to modernise telecommunications network in rural areas to help students gain access to education through digital channels.
The Sukuk Prihatin, a bottom up assistance, was launched on the back of overwhelming support from the public and corporates to help the groups who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and movement restrictions, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the launch.
Public and members of the corporate world interested to subscribe to the Sukuk Prihatin Islamic bond can do so with a minimum investment of RM500 million and this will be channeled to the Covid-19 Fund, he said.
