KUALA LUMPUR: England and Wales’ summer General Certificate of Secondary Education and Advanced level exams will not take place as scheduled in May and June.

Reports said this follows United Kingdom’s decision to close schools as announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson today.

Their Education Secretary Gavin Williamson told the House of Commons: “I can confirm that we will not go ahead with assessments or exams and that we will not be publishing performance tables for this academic year.”

He said that the Department for Education would work with the exam watchdog Ofqual “to ensure that children get the qualifications that they need".

The Scottish education secretary will be announcing details of any delays to Scottish Higher exams on Thursday, but officials say they are trying to be mindful of senior students completing their coursework.

Malaysia is still trying to contact higher education stakeholders to find out how students in Malaysia who are also expected to take their exams in the months will be affected.
