Full water supply restoration following diesel contamination by Saturday

SHAH ALAM: Water supply is expected to be fully restored to nearly two million consumer accounts in the Klang Valley following the diesel pollution incident in Sungai Selangor by Saturday.
Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd customer relationship and communications department head Abdul Raof Ahmad said, based on their monitoring up to 6pm today, supply to 16 per cent of registered customer accounts has been restored.
He said the supply to a total of 1,222 affected areas involving 1,919,942 accounts in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat will take place in stages from 6am tomorrow.
“All four water treatment plants (Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, 3 and Rantau Panjang) resumed operations at 3.30am today. The process of raising the reservoir level and stabilising pressure in the main distribution systems are on-going.
“The water reconnection recovery for Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor is expected on Wednesday at 6pm; Gombak at 6pm on Thursday; Klang/ Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur at 6pm on Friday.
“Over in Petaling and Kuala Langat, the recovery will be at 9am on Saturday,” said Abdul Raof.
The four WTPs, which supply 60 per cent of treated water to consumers in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, was shut down twice since Friday due to oil based waste and diesel oil spill pollution.
Raof said 97 tanker lorries will be mobilised, including assistance from agencies and other water operators, as well as 34 jumbo tankers to provide supply to customers.
He added that there were 16 local service centres (LSCs) operating round-the-clock and 17 public water taps will be available for affected customers.
