KUALA LUMPUR: All schools in Sabah will be closed for two weeks beginning tomorrow until Oct 25.
In a statement, the Education Ministry said the decision was made after the special National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Covid-19 today mooted for the ministry to look at the need to temporarily close all schools in Sabah.
The ministry said students residing in hostels located within red zones in the state are to remain at their hostels.
The same applies for hostel students of schools in green zones but their family homes are located in red zones.
"The schools will manage the welfare and security of the hostel students," the statement informed.
It added that the schools' administration is to ensure that all teachers and students conduct online teaching and learning during this closure.
The Prime Minister who chaired the special NSC meeting today earlier said schools which record any Covid-19 positive cases can immediately close without waiting for risk evaluation from the Health Ministry.
He also said the Education Ministry would consider the need to shut all schools in Sabah, following the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the state.
