KUALA LUMPUR: The MyHumanitarian volunteer movement has welcomed the Welfare Department's (JKM) move to draw up a standard operating procedure (SOP) for those giving aid to the needy.

Its chairman Mohamed Maliki Mohamed Rapiee said the public must understand that without a proper SOP, aid distribution could end up with disastrous results.

He said that without the SOP efforts to fight the deadly Covid-19 infection could end up being compromised.

Maliki said this was the time for individuals and NGOs to help those who were affected during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

He said MyHumanitarian was always prepared as the SOP imposed by JKM was in line with what they have been doing.

"We felt relieved and grateful that the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry had through JKM issued this SOP to channel help to the needy during MCO.

“It turned out that the minister had heard our views and recommendations,” he said thanking its minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun for the move.

The ministry has set up a guideline (SOP) to enable NGOs to help distribute donations to those in need during MCO.

Rina said the ministry through the JKM would ensure that the channeling activities were carried out in accordance with the instructions of the National Security Council (MKN) and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
