KUALA LUMPUR: Affin Bank Bhd has set the Malaysia Book of Records for developing the first small and medium enterprises (SME) community development mobile app.

Affin Bank said this is the third recognition for the Bank’s SMEColony apps, after recently receiving recognition for “best SME banking initiative for start-ups (Malaysia)” by International Finance Awards in September 2019 and Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards for Mobile Technology in Banking, by Singapore Business Review last December.

The certificate of recognition was presented to Affin Bank group chief executive officer Kamarul Ariffin Mohd Jamil by The Malaysia Book of Records general manager Edward Sin.

“The SMEColony is the first mobile application designed for the development of SMEs in Malaysia with the aim to fulfil the needs of developing SMEs.

“This initiative by the bank is to build relationships with SMEs as well as to create business synergy amongst the SMEs players as a community within a digital ecosystem,” said Kamarul.

SMEs can also benefit from the business matching opportunities available to about 50 strategic partners and increase brand visibility via promotion of products and services on a digital market, he added.

Affin Bank said SMEColony aims to empower SMEs, including start-ups, who may need to tap into digital platforms.

“It serves to mobilise growth of the SME community with access to business resources and solutions through a digital platform,” it said.
