Armed robbers make off with jewellery worth RM700k in Bangi

KAJANG: Four armed robbers wearing full-face helmets escaped with RM700,000 worth of jewellery after robbing a goldsmith shop in a hypermarket in Bandar Seri Putra, Bangi, last night (July 30).
Kajang deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Sabri Abdullah said in the 8.45pm incident, the suspects, believed to be armed with a gun and hammer, smashed the glass display panels and made off with multiple trays of jewellery within five minutes.
He said three staff members, an unarmed guard, six customers including a young child were left unharmed.
"The CCTV footage of the incident showed four men entering the mall through the main entrance and ordering everyone to lie on the floor.
"Three of the suspects were armed with hammers while the fourth, who was holding what looks like a pistol, stood guard at the shop's entrance," he said.
This was the first time the goldsmith shop was robbed since it opened for business three years ago, said Sabri.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
