We are in for more floods, more powerful typhoons

It is going to be another tough flood season this year and the typhoons are expected to be stronger, the city’s flood prevention office said on Saturday.
The flood season usually begins from June and lasts until the end of September. But this year, it may also come a little earlier.
The office said the city will see a significant increase in rain this year during the flood season compared with last year, which according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, was 543.2 millimeters.
There will also be more hot days as the subtropical weather is unlikely to move abnormally up north as it did last year. Last year, Shanghai had three typhoons making landfalls consecutively.
The office is expecting fewer typhoons to hit Shanghai this year. Because of El Nino, the number of typhoons generated in the Pacific Ocean will be lower than last year.
But despite that, the office warns the intensity of typhoons is likely to be stronger this year.
