KUALA LUMPUR: The government will enforce a two-week Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) on five localities in Sabah and two in Kedah from June 26 to July 9 to curb the spread of Covid-19 infections.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the affected areas in Sabah were Kampung Muhibbah, Menggatal, Kota Kinabalu; Tawau Prison and Taman Ehsan Prison quarters, Tawau; Kampung Kuala Merotai, Kalabakan; Kampung Tahak, Membakut, Beaufort; and Flat Indah Jaya, Sandakan.

He said the two localities in Kedah were Politeknik Sultanah Bahiyah, Kulim, and Bestgrade industrial area in Pokok Sena which reported 27 and 22 Covid-19 positive cases respectively.

"The decision to place the localities under EMCO was due to an exponential rise in cases in the areas coupled with a high infectivity rate," he said in a statement.
