Athletes who were supposed to compete in the Johor Malaysia Games last year but will be overaged when the postponed event finally rolls around next year can now breathe easy.
National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said these athletes will be allowed to compete in the delayed games next year.
The Malaysia Games is an Under-21 competition.
"There will be a relaxation (of the age limit regulation) for athletes who were registered for the games last year," said Shapawi.
"They will still be able to compete in the games even if they have exceeded the Under-21 age limit.
"For replacements (on the registration list), the new athletes must be Under-21, based on the (new) early registration date.
"This early registration date will be decided by the Malaysia Games supreme committee."
The Johor Malaysia Games was initially scheduled in July last year but was postponed due to Covid-19.
