Forging closer Malaysia-China educational cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR: The first 2020 Malaysia-China (Yunnan) Higher Education Dialogue was successfully held in Kunming, China recently.

Consul General of Malaysia to Kunming Faizal Shani said Malaysia was determined to become an education hub and encouraged more Chinese students to pursue their education here.

In this regard, he said assistance and support from the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education and partner universities to actively promote "Study in Malaysia" were appreciated.

Chen Shibo, deputy secretary-general of the Yunnan Education Commission of CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee urged all relevant parties to adhere to the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.

Abdul Aziz How Abdullah, education counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in China moderated the roundtable discussion.

He said the theme for this year's dialogue was "Strengthen Friendship; Explore the Future" and the main objective was to strengthen exchanges and resource sharing between Yunnan and Malaysia in the field of higher education while helping to deepen the friendship between Malaysia and China.

A total of 25 universities, 14 from Yunnan and 11 from Malaysia participated, among them Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Multimedia University, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, and Universiti Tenaga Nasional.

On the Yunnan side, participating universities included Kunming University of Science and Technology, Yunnan Agricultural University, Kunming Medical University, Kunming University, Dali University, Yunnan University, and Southwest Forestry University.

At the end of the dialogue, participants agreed to create a new future of higher education cooperation.

The second Malaysia-China (Yunnan) Higher Education Dialogue is expected to be held next year with the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education as the host.
