JOHOR BARU: Up to 915 people from 222 families are still taking shelter at temporary relief centres state-wide following widespread flooding yesterday.

This is a drop from the 1,210 victims recorded on Sunday morning.

According to state Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan, four relief centres were closed last night after flood waters receded and evacuees were allowed to return home.

The shelters are SK Tanjung Tohor in Muar; and SK Simpang, Sekolah Agama Kompleks Penghulu and SK Seri Kencana Simpang Renggam in Kluang.

However, four other centres were opened last night to accommodate other evacuees. They are SK Parit Bulat in Muar, SK Tiga Serangkai in Batu Pahat, SK Kampung Melayu Raya in Pontian, and SK Sungai Linau in Kluang.

"In total, 18 relief centres still in operation.

"Pontian still accounts for the largest number of flood victims with 391 people from 98 families," he said in a statement here last night. – BERNAMA
