KUALA TERENGGANU: A total of 48 people suffered food poisoning after consuming puding buih – a local dessert – which was purchased online.

Up to 20 of the victims were admitted to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) here yesterday, with one being warded in the intensive care unit.

"Four other patients were admitted to private hospitals, while the remaining victims received outpatient treatment.

"Most of the patients experienced symptoms such as stomach ache and diarrhoea.

"The state Health Department is still investigating the source of the food… as others may be exposed to the same risk," state Health director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus said in a statement, adding that the dessert is believed to have been purchased online.

"The department began receiving notifications on incidents of food poisoning starting (Monday), and so far, there are 48 cases from two districts, Marang and Kuala Terengganu.

"We hope all traders and members of the public will be mindful of food safety, especially on maintaining a high level of cleanliness," Dr Nor Azimi said.
