IPOH: The nation's frontliners yesterday received a standing ovation from the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and members of the state Legislative Assembly in appreciation for their hard work battling the Covid-19 virus.
Holding back tears, Sultan Nazrin expressed his appreciation to healthcare frontliners who expose themselves to great risk looking after those infected by the virus.
"I would like to record my highest appreciation to the people who work in the Health Ministry, in particular the medical staff — the frontliners in this war. By God's will, and through their sacrifices, the spread of the virus has been contained, while the vast majority of those infected have recovered.
"Although our public health infrastructure is modest, and our medical resources limited… in fact, our health service is not even ranked as one of the best in the world, we nevertheless have professional and experienced health workers who are dedicated and committed to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to them.
"They have shown the nation and the people that they are our most valuable assets," Sultan Nazrin said in his opening speech at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here yesterday.
Sultan Nazrin said the state assembly wished to record its highest appreciation to all personnel who have demonstrated their utmost dedication to their work in the interest of their country and fellow citizens.
"In appreciation of these heroes, let us all stand up, let us all applaud the frontliners who are risking their lives to help us face the threat of the Covid-19 virus," he said.
Sultan Nazrin also expressed his appreciation to personnel from the Health Department, police, Armed Forces, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence, Rela, Welfare Department, State Security Council, district officers and the civil service, who are also frontliners in this battle.
"Similarly, the Information and Broadcasting Departments, as well as various media agencies, have played an important role in relaying crucial information, strategies and advice through their respective networks.
"I would also like to record my appreciation to the respective religious bodies, the private sector, professional bodies, non-governmental organisations, local communities and individuals who have selflessly contributed their energy, service, time and material in this time of crisis.
"Each and every one of them has shown the highest level of patriotism in helping to protect citizens of our country," he said.
