Downpour triggers Perak flash flooding, 50 evacuated

IPOH: A total of 50 people were evacuated after floodwaters inundated their homes here, last night.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Surau Kampung Sungai Kuning in Selama district was opened at 9pm and received 20 families.

"The department received a distress call at 8.12pm and upon arrival at the scene, we noticed that the water had reached one-metre high.

"We had to move the affected families, including two newborns, to the temporary relief centre," he said.

He added that a continuous downpour since 3pm yesterday caused houses in the low-lying areas of Kampung Sungai Kuning to be flooded.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of the people here," he said.
