MUAR: With the extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to April 28, villagers in rural areas of Muar, Johor are faced with a major shortage of food and other daily supplies.
About 70 villages in Pagoh in the state are also in need of extra assistance.
Though they have received some aid, residents claim it is insufficient for them to make it through the MCO period.
“We have received some aid, but we appeal for more help as many of us are finding it difficult to cope with the MCO, especially with the extension,” said a villager there.
Responding to the villagers’ plight, the headmaster and teachers of SK Jorak in Kampung Jorak, Bukit Pasir, pooled their own resources to purchase supplies for more than 100 families there.
Members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and chairman, who are also local villagers, will help distribute the food items, which include rice, sugar, flour and milk.
"Our heartfelt thanks to our teachers who empathise with the condition and situation of our villagers", said PTA chairman, Hamidan Nong.
"The teachers have not forgotten their students and also their parents during this closed-school session and trying times by offering their support,” said Suhaila Hashim, who is the PTA’s Welfare Bureau head.
